New Venice Canal Tidegates

There was a ribbon-cuttingceremony held on Thursday, January 14th marking the completion of the VeniceTidegate Replacement Project—The project removed five severely corrodedtidegates and electric gate controls. The old cast irongates have been replacedwith stainless steel gates, and the new system effectively controls the waterlevel in the Venice Canal.

The new system allows the incoming and outgoing tides to rise and fallnaturally without disturbing the plant, animal, and marine life living in theBallona Lagoon, Grand Canal, and the Venice Canals north of Washington Boulevard.
